Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nick Moore
This afternoon was my first Waitrose double header and so after exploring more of north and west London on my bike after mission 1, I was back to ring Mrs J's doorbell for her list. She had left this on the mat and when I picked it up she mentioned a few other things from behind her closed door. "I'll be back" I said confidently, and it was off for the second time to join the queue outside my now favourite supermarket.
Mrs J had described everything in great detail on her list, and included not only rough prices for all the items she wanted but helpful hints such as "choose a pack from the back to get a later date", which certainly made life easier. My only discretion on her list was whether to include a third liquorice Catherine wheel, or go for another liquorice item - I chose the latter (and can only hope Mrs J was happy with my choice).
Within 30 minutes I was back outside Mrs J's front door - she was surprised how quick I'd been, but I explained how familiar I was now with the aisles at that particular shop...we had a chat through the closed door and she said how helpful it was that she could get GoodGym volunteers to help her out as her daughter (who would normally assist) is an A&E doctor and she doesn't want to trouble her at the moment. It's brief chats like this (even through a closed door) that help to keep it all in perspective!
