Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Wednesday afternoon took me to Hampstead Heath to help Miss M with some DIY. The task at ask was to help her to put together a flat pack wooden chest. She had bought it off a friend, who had ‘kindly’ disassembled it, so she could get it into her flat, but due to her health conditions Miss M was unable to revert it back to the box it once was.
It was a tight squeeze in the flat, so it was probably best it was in pieces. Luckily, we had the screws and dowels and an allen key needed. Unfortunately we did not have any instructions, but how hard can putting six bits of wood together eh? Harder than I imagined. Mainly because I managed to get a dowel stuck in the wrong hole and after ten minutes of frantic tweezering, banging and screwing, there was a moment I thought I was defeated. If the screws couldn’t fit in the hole, the chest couldn’t be fit together.
Miss M’s dog came to console me, or at least see what all the noise was about. A cheeky little chihuahua called Lucky. Miss M told me he was a rescue from Italy, and then had a brainwave… she came back with a corkscrew (all the talk of Italy had her thinking of Italian wine) and I was able to prise out the damn dowel without too much further damage. Lucky for Lucky!
The rest of the task actually went smoothly, and despite some spacial constraints, I was pleased as punch (got to have a box-er pun in there!) to present to Miss M a fully functioning chest complete with a lid that opens and closes - simply the chest!
