Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
14 people ran 2.5k, cleared 17 bin bags and 3 ton sacks of overgrowth from a garden, and completed 25 minutes of running drills to improve speed.
A crew of 14 runners set off from the Arch Gallery last night for the short run down Old Bethnal Green Road to Roberta Street, where a housing association had called us in to tackle some serious overgrown gardens. We said hi to Julie and all followed through, squeezing single file down a path until we reach overgrowth so thick we couldn't get through. We back out again, grabbed loppers, shears and a saw and got to work on the jungle.
"Densest Parts"
We cleared the path in just a few minutes of hectic chopping, with a team bagging up the waste as we went. Andrew and Bryon turn to the right at the top of the path and made inroads towards some of the densest parts of the garden, while others cut a way in the first garden on the left. We then all joined forces and totally cleared garden plot in the remaining time - it'll need digging over to remove roots and neatening up but the tree/weeds (sawed up by Ricardo, who worked seriously hard on his first GoodGym run) are now bagged up in 17 bin bags and 3 ton sacks ready for the council to pick up.
"Strongest Hops"
After 40 mins of hard work we put the tools away, and ran on to Weavers Fields. We talked about the benefits of fast turnover and then we hopped, skipped and bounded concentrating on increasing the power of each stride. Posture remained impressively strong for all runners throughout; special mention for strongest hops go to Alison and Axel and for power during long skips to David. Nice one!
We jogged back to the Arch together and stretched off. Upper body workout, leg drive and CV in 90 mins.
