Report written by Conroy
Today 13 runners unfazed by Ciara, and all that wind she has been blowing turned out in Croydon to do good. Unfortunately our task was cancelled and dispite efforts to find a replacement we came up short.
On a cold windy night we could have chosen to go to the pub but instead we headed upstairs in the gym to do a fitness session. When we reached upstairs there wasn't enough room for us all to do our session some would say the odds were stacked against us and that it was a sign for us to call it quits and head out.
Nah, thats not our style, head out we did do but that was to the car park at Southern House for our warm up before heading off for a 5k run around Croydon, after all we've got races coming up and we always get a fitness session in. We headed out onto Wellesley Road, towards Park Lane where we paused for a moment to check out Nicola's tree. wow we planted it a year ago! Time sure does fly, since then Ingrid has earned her wings! Following our brief stop for a photo we continued our run towards Coombe Road where we again stopped at the foot of Water Tower for some hill sprints. Congratulations Magda on achieving 3rd place on the all time female list and No.1 for this year on the Water Tower Hill Strava Segment. Well done to the rest of the group for putting their all in and achieving PBs too, it was great watching you all taking on board my advice and demonstrating it in your run up the hill.
In the words of DJ Luck and MC Neat: Ain't no stoppin us (no stoppin) No-one does it better (x4) No-one does it better(no stoppin) No-one does it better (no-one) Ain't no stoppin us (no stoppin) No-one does it better
With our hill session completed and the group feeling the effects all that was left was a gentle run back to solutions or so they think, we continued along Coombe Road onto Park HIll Road and it may not have been as steep as Water Tower Hill but it was definitely longer, however that said the group took it in their stride as a recovery run after the grueling Hill session and was relieved once we reached the top and was able to run down hill down, Fairfield Road then back to solutions. While doing our stretches we were joined by a guest who was fascinated with what we were doing and joined us in our cool down stretches. We gave her all the info about what we do and who we are, will she join us next week?
Well done all it was great running with you all tonight and you all gave it your best in the hill session see you next week. Sign up here!
