Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Catherine
3 runners ran about 5km to visit Mr J on Saturday afternoon. It was a chilly day but the run warmed us up.
Mr J showed us in and offered us bottles of water. He provided us with all the tools we needed as well as some excellent gardening gloves! He explained that his garden needed some tidying up.
There were lots of weeds amongst the cracks in the concrete slabs so Julie and Sarah set about clearing these with the use of an interesting tool that I think we all agreed was a butter knife! Around the side the house was an area that had become overgrown with moss and Cathy tackled it with a shiny tool Mr J provided. It worked wonders and make scrapping all of the moss off really easy. This was done to ensure the surface wasn't slippery and therefore safe to walk on (see the before and after pictures).
Julie, Sarah and Cathy all worked on the pathway next, clearing the weeds and scraping off the moss. Next we set about harvesting all the spinach that Mr J no longer wanted. He offered it to us and we each took home a massive bag! We cleared all the weeds in the bed afterwards and swept up the debris.
We still had a bit of time left over and Mr J mentioned that he also had a small front garden that needed some tidying. So we set off through the house to the front and began clearing the weeds from the cracks in the concrete slabs, sweeping up with leaves and helping to trim some of the larger bushes. We ended up filling a whole garden waste bag by the end!
Mr J thanked us and offered us all bananas & J20. We gratefully excepted the fruit and juice, bidding him farewell! He said he was so happy with the results and was happily surprised that we done so much in so little time. He said 'Goodgym' is a fantastic initiative!
