-- A BLOOMING lovely day --
Running over to meet Kapil at the task location on a sunny Saturday morning, plenty of people were outdoors enjoying the sunshine. For Mr A though, his once-beautiful rose garden is now very overgrown and messy, meaning he doesn't feel like going out there. And his neighbour, who he doesn't get on with, has thrown bits of rubbish into his garden. His health conditions mean it's all too big a job for him to tackle on his own...
-- We ROSE to the challenge --
Kapil and I had an hour and a half to turn the garden around so that Mr A could enjoy it again. With tools and bin-bags provided by Mr A, we set to work. We tackled the corner by his door first, so that he'd have a place to sit out by one of his favourite rose bushes. We then moved onto sweeping the paving, picking out the rubbish and pulling weeds.
-- Don't stop beLEAFing --
Mr A kept our spirits high by chatting to us and telling us how grateful he was. He told us some facts and history about roses. Did you know that roses came to the UK from all over the world, from places like Israel and China? And there are hundreds of thousands of different varieties? Mr A has had 47 different types over the years and has 25 in his garden now!
-- Thanks a BUNCH --
We collected the now bursting bin-bags together, ready to be taken away, and said our goodbyes to Mr A. He was very thankful and he said sitting out among his roses will be really good for his wellbeing.
