Report written by Tav (he/him)
6 dedicated and awesome runners (and a slightly poorly Chrissie who magically appeared) made their way to help Michael at Colchester Foodbank tonight.
We began after the briefing and news section with updates on Emily's carol sinning on 10th December at Tree Tops, Chrissie's Christmas present project and Ella's 50th run and good deed. All legends in their own right doing what Goodgymers do.
We did a dynamic warm up in the drizzle of the night and lunged across the bridge before winding our way along the river path towards the foodbank. As we ran we told each other things we didn't know about each other, things we were proud of and New Year resolution ideas.
When we arrived Michael cheered us in and welcomed us to the foodbank and we set about cleaning the bathroom, kitchen and food storage area. Well done Vanessa for vacuuming with finesse, Dan for his mopping madness, Ella, Denise and Belinda for blitzing the storage area with dust pan and brushes and mops. We summarized our evenings work and gave ourselves a round of applause.
We got glamorous for some photos with tinsel and baubles and headed off for fartlek training on East Hill. We used a traffic light system (my head torch) to time 20 second runs up the hill at 75% of our maximum effort. I flashed my strove light and then switch to a red light when 20 seconds were up. Then we recovered down hill and repeated. Great individual effort and lovely encouragement by the Colchester Goodgymers and our guest from Worthing.
Going back to Leisure World through our ancient Roman wall and lunging across the bridge again everyone was in good spirits. No mention of rain at all.
We stretched toe to neck and finger tips to end an epic Group Run.
FINALLY A BIG THANK YOU TO MICHAEL! FOODBANKS DO VITAL WORK SO PLEASE FOLLOW THEM AND SUPPORT ON SOCIAL MEDIA! CHECK THEM OUT HERE!

Tonight I became a signatory for Foodbank vouchers! I can report that the last of the #Projectchristmas presents are in and between everyone involved we have collected presents for at least 148 children! I am dropping them off tomorrow to Emmaus and they will be collected by those who have been offered present vouchers for the children in their family when receiving a Foodbank voucher. What a great community we live in :)
