Gwyn and Tracey helped out with the Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust stand at the Woodland Festival in Elvaston Castle. We supported Ben, the volunteer coordinator for the Trust, talking to members of the public about volunteering opportunities. We also supported sales of the Trust's publications, and some amazingly colourful hats, skillfully knitted by Ben's multi-talented mother, Chris.
Two other fund-raising activities were part of the Trust's stall; a colouring competition, where children gave their personal interpretation to a scene from the castle grounds, and a face-painting stall, which was a delight to adults and children alike, with both woodland and super-hero designs.
As we were packing up, Ben told us that his Mum had generously offered any leftover hats as a donation to Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity, as she knew of our work with them.
Everyone who visited our stall enjoyed themselves, and we brought some brightness to their day. Ben, and his colleague, Alison, were both really appreciative of our contribution, and we hope to be back to the castle to see them again soon.
