Paper chases, smiling faces. Urban Orienteering and getting Peckham ROCKIN!! Just an average day out for GG Southwark!

In the final glows of this gloriously sunshiney day, I welcomed the Southwark GG fitness familia with all the freshness of a spring chicken. Excited to finally roll out my ingenious urban orienteering task designed to paper chase leaflet love throughout peckham, while showcasing what this awesome area is all about!!

GOODGYM PECKHAM’s URBAN ORIENTEERING SLAM This is a competition….so you gotta be in it, to win it!!! POW POW!

The snap happy teams had a mission and one ultimate goal; To discover and showcase Peckham and shut down twitter along the way!

Split into teams of 3 and while leaflet dropping for link-age (side cough.... those who know.. know!!!) , on route the teams route had to incorporate a snap of photos at key destinations in Peckham, after-which the photos had to get straight up on twitter with the hashtags #GoodgymSouthwark #thisispeckham #LDNMovesme

Destinations to snap… The following destinations earned points per snap, so in order to win they had to get in as many as they could.

  • Train Stations (as many as possible)
  • Places of Worship (as many as possible)
  • Cinemas (as many as possible)
  • One Library
  • Some Water (Be creative – aka 'Peckham Spring" )
  • Sports/Activity facilities (as many as possible)
  • A pub with a word beginning with P in it.
  • A Jerk Chicken restaurant
  • A Halal meat vendor
  • Some Wisteria Blossoms
  • An Art Gallery
  • A Market

All teams had to be back at base by no later than 20:15 and the team with the most points will win a prize which will be presented at next week’s session!!!!

So with housekeeping and welcomes dashed off in no time and the usual splattering of my chatterbox machine gun all over the troops, we set to work on picking teams. Done!! Smart phones at the ready and homing pigeons in place, the teams were ready and raring to go!

To warm them up I took the full squad over to the grassy Rye for some mobilisation drills and a lil stretch before the start gun went off...... the countdown was here, they started to cheer.... 3,2,1 and their off!!!!

As I watched with glee the first splattering of group pics and places of interest grabbed, social media was overrun - literally!

  • Hitting up halal was team "Terminator" led by Tom.

  • Showing out at the cinema was team "Magical Mystery Tour" led by Rob.

  • Giving it large at the Only Fools and Horses 3 wheeler - "The pigeons" led by Queen Pigeon Helena.

  • The teams leaped and bounced their way through the borough, snapping all she had to offer with some cheeky surprises in their too!

And with a bonus point for the best team shot, there was no short number of entries!!!

So as the teams began to roll back into base, pigeons arrived first snatching up the first back to base bonus point, followed by The terminators and last in was Rob and his ladies - the Magical mystery Tour. Red, sweaty faces were all smiles and back-slapping as the epic efforts were congratulated all round! In fact so in sync these 3 teams that they each one managed to rack up the exact same amount of points - 21 !!!!! Can you believe it!!!! So it was down to the bonus points to determine the winner..... Drum Roll please...

Last job for me was to choose the "Pics of the night" One's that captured Peckham's true spirit. And so the ones I chose were: Helena and her Pigeons selfie pop at the Only Fools and Horses 3 Wheeler and....... The terminators Peace Wall snap!!!

So with the first in win and one of the fav pics earning them an extra 2 point, it was Helena's Pigeons that just etched ahead to take the first prize!!!! yayyyyy

Prizes will be something healthy and delicious and home cooked by yours truly next week!!! Maybe they'll share...... Let's hope so as it was such a close call!!!

These swifty shutterbugs were on their game tonight, not only tasking with leaflet dropping but the big efforts to rep Southwark and showcase the love, Real Deal style for Peckham, a truly diverse, interesting, culturally rich and exciting place to work, live, fun and run!!!

Until next time....

DO GOOD. FEEL GOOD. INSPIRE.
