Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
6 awesome runners ran over 5km to deliver leaflets to promote the Clocktower Market in South Norwood!
Well what a lovely evening that cracked up to be hey guys?! It was great to be a GoodGym tourist last night and meet some new runners! What a lovely bunch! We were joined by the awesome Dom, Jen and Helena along with two fabulous first timers Michelle and Jennifer. Let's give everyone a CHEER on their page shall we :)
We started off with a little warm up on the tiny patch of concrete outside the gym. Nothing too fancy, just some high knees, butt kicks, star jumps, fast feet and a few lunges for good measure! After a group photo we set off down towards Woodside Green where we met Jasmine, the leaflet bearer! We split into two teams, Helena, Jen & Michelle on team left, and Jennifer, Dom and I on team right! We parted ways and got straight to it!
SO MANY GATES
So I used to really want to be a postman when I was a kid (or postlady/postperson.. whichever is politically correct these days!). I always thought it looked so fun but man some post boxes are just plain AWKWARD! Firstly, loads of houses seemed to have gates, which added some valuable seconds onto each delivery. Secondly, those annoying post boxes that have those brush things inside them, meaning you have to shove your whole hand through it... not cool. And also the ones which are RIGHT DOWN ON THE FLOOR, what's that about?! Anyway despite all these leaflet challenges (including Jennifer having a postbox fall into her hands, and Jen potentially locking someone out of their house (which we won't talk about!) we ended up flyering all the main streets in the area as well as most of the side streets too! NICE ONE! After 30 minutes or so, the two teams met in the middle and walked back to Jasmine to drop of the leftover leaflets.
TABATA!!
I thought we would make use of the nice park we were in and do the fitness session there before we set off back home. So Tabata is a form of high intensity training which basically takes 4 minutes and you complete 8 sets of work for 20 seconds with 10 seconds rest in between. It was invented in Japan I think by some scientist who said that 4 minutes of super high intensity work was equally if not more effective than an hour long workout! So it's meant to be reaaaaaal good. So because I'm really nice I let the lovely runners of Croydon choose the exercises rather than me beasting them with burpees and press ups haha! They opted for mountain climbers (really good for your core and hip flexors which is so good for your running, nice choice!) and star jumps which are a great all round body cardio workout so two really good exercises there. 4 minutes later and it was DONE!!!
Home time :)
We went back the way we came and even got a few sprint finishes in there! Very nice work everyone! We had a little stretch and then we were finito!
I had a really great time last night guys! Hope you did too. Thanks for being so welcoming and if you want to ever visit me in Greenwich on a Wednesday then please feel free! Have a lovely rest of the week :)
