10 runners ran a hotfire 3k route to give the Brighton Community kitchen a spruce up!
Hotfire route because the temperature was still high and rather smouldery and I say this because I don’t usually need to wear just shorts and t-shirt on the runs but yesterday needed it alongwith a couple of glasses of water, especially having come from working outside (which the YHA are okay with us having) combined with an uphill route in the middle of town, and then what turned into for us outside the community kitchen a mop reach and swooping workout to clean the WHITE sign, which gave us the idea for the title and much like that of how we weave through the city streets and tinder at times.
We visit the community kitchen monthly and they really appreciate our help because they don’t have the time to get to all small places or the people power to get everything done in time and in exchange they gracefully grant us discounts (DISCOUNT CODE GOODGYM618) when booking onto some of their courses and also have fed us soup and champagne before for a social because we’re all a chatty bunch. Myself & paul got to work mopping the sign and underlay with a bucket as we were the tallest of the group, helped by Helena and tara, everyone else was inside either wiping round cupboards and over-hanging oven vents, going over the ornaments out the back, or sink areas as part of the tasks the kitchen had set out for us already on a task list (which can be seen on the instagram story. if would like further info)
We then headed uphill once again to St. Nicholas Rest Garden and underwent some crossover training at the back of the park, being mindful of our noise levels as there were some people ‘resting’ and a few dog owners. Tara split us into two groups, one running as many laps as they could around the circle path of the park in 3 minutues and the other group conducted controlled jumping lunges, one-legged squats and one-legged sit up and down movements using a bench if needed rotating at 20 secs eac, after two rounds of each we came back together and caught our breaths then challenged ourselves to a 2 minute plank off (this is where you create a plank shape to the ground, fists clenched giving you the support you need and body parallel to the ground ) Helena holding her ground once again and showing incredible stamina being one of the last to break alongside Michael, Sherman and rose, good effort!
We ran back to our meeting point and base at the YHA Old Steine, swiping through all the foot traffic of north street and stretched our calve muscles out along the railing and made plans for our Saturday maverick race over at Falmer , decided on Bobowa for a social place to celebrate our 2nd birthday . Big effort from everyone on this short (especially david who ran to from hove before the run and still soldiered on), sharp blast of a run which isn’t too long that you can put more effort in without worrying about having to get yourself back to base on enough energy reserves.
Next week we’re painting railings as part of a short run again at 18:15 at the YHA Old Steine as always, good for speed runners and especially beginner runners who havn’t ventured to doing long runs just yet and just fancy some friendly company from people who enjoy coaching you’re running and also as a task the group have done before, hopefully see you there!
Happy running and much more, your taskforce member Damian J
