Rachel, Laura and Sheila went to help Braywick Heath Nursery on a very warm day. Our first task was to go through the plant sales areas and deadhead the plants and pull out any pots containing unsaleable plants. It was amazing to see how mant plants had been sold since only last week - several benches are now empty. We had to go and cool off every so often in the breeze created in the gap between the glasshouse and poly tunnel. Bliss! We then turned our attention to an area where customers bring their pots for re-use. Masses of pots had accumulated there, and needed sorting into those that could be re-used and those that were damaged or had printing on them that can't be reused and are to go for recycling. Laura proved to be a dab-hand at sorting the pots into pilesof the same size - more difficult than you may think. After a quick tea break with yummy, slightly melted, Jaffa cakes (thanks, Rachel), we tidied up and made our way home aftr another satisfying morning's work
We run a not-for-profit company, supported by paid staff & community volunteers to provide volunteering, work experience and employment for adults with a wide range of support needs. We are currently having a big clear out across our site, and need help moving all of the material to a skip. This will enable us to better use the space we have to expand our operations and better support our volunteers and staff.
