Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Hey! Newbie Steve here! This was my second ever GoodGym event and first time getting to know Brixton on foot.
A crowd of 30 or so gathered at Papa’s Park, a community centre and calm oasis behind the noise of Brixton Academy junction. We grabbed some cans of food, with some awesome people chucking a half dozen in their backpacks. For now, a four-mile run with a couple of cans in hand was plenty for me.
Everyone was chatting in 2s and 3s as we weaved along the pavement, and we arrived at the Vauxhall food bank before we knew it, and greeted with a beaming smile by lovely Faith. Plenty of the regular people knew the drill and set about heaving crates of food and re-sorting hundreds of cans before hitting the road back, where Rebecca dished out some tasty cakes she had made.
Friend-of-GoodGym Jayne (www.thebeautifulcore.com) provided a free short pilates course focusing on developing core strength for running. The room was so full of people wiggling their legs in the air that not everybody could fit, which was a perfect excuse to tuck into a second helping of Rebecca’s Most Orangey Chocolatey Things Since The Chocolate Orange Things Your Nan Used To Get At Christmas And Were All Yours Once She Was Tuckered Out On Brandy. Good times.
