Report written by Manjit Birk
So we were back out tonight doing some leaflet dropping but this time for Thames Hospice.
We had a few new people join us tonight which is always great. A warm welcome to Sara and St John
With over 500 leaflets to drop and Langley to run to, we didn’t have time to hang around.
But before we move on, lets discuss our key milestone from last week!
A Good Deed Indeed
On Friday, 7 of us descended on the Thames Hospice shop at Harrow Market to help with a clothes sorting task…. it was a perfect fit for this community mission to take us to the 1000 Good Deeds mark!
Each and every Goodgym Slough member has helped us get to this point by either coming along to the Group Runs, the Community Missions we do or by helping our socially isolated older persons with one off mission tasks or their weekly coach runs!
It’s an amazing feeling and I’m so pleased and proud to be part of this awesome group!
Here’s cheers to the next 1000!
Bro, can you pass me that leaflet?....Bro-sure!
So lets get back to the task at hand. We welcomed everyone in, did our warm up and safety brief then headed out to Langley.
It’s not always possible to make leaflet dropping an exciting task. Other than knowing that we are helping Thames Hospice hopefully get some new volunteers to help in their shop – which by the way, actually sells really nice items at a very reasonable cost – I bought 2 shoes for the price of 1!
Having done a couple of community missions here it is amazing to see what needs to happen in the background for the shop to be successful! This shop in particular follows seasons trends in terms of colour and sells some top end brands…Even Hugo and Mulberry frequent this shop! And if it makes you feel better, just know that the funds the shop makes goes to help support the new Thames Hospice Care facility that is being built in Bray. The current one in Windsor is at full capacity with a waiting list so this new facility is really needed in our community.
So why don’t you take a leaf-let out of our books and help to volunteer in their shop?
Can you be-leaf it? It didn’t rain tonight
After coming home liked a drowned rat over the past few weeks, it was nice to be out with not a speck of rain in sight.
Thank you to Pam and Sandy for being part of of walk/run back marker team today - this jammy jeffers is really going to take off in Slough!
On arrival at Lascelles Rd, we divided up into smaller groups of 2. Each team were given a set of leaflets and a different road to target. They also had a few extra challenges.
The first team back were postman Daz in his black and white top and Naomi. They were targeting Kendrick le Mar road and had great fun making music (puns) together.
Next in were new comers Sara and StJohn....they got some punning to do as their pun was rubbish (great for a litter pick though!).
Third home were Sara and Jean - they just leaf-let me to it at the beginning and ran off and covered more roads than they were tasked to!
Next team back were Sandy and Pam - they really fly-ered down Lascelles and raced back to base as quick as they could.
And finally, our Queen of Puns, Jen and Kam (who actually had the furthest roads to cover) were back with their 'let-ters tell you a secret! which was that they were 'posting to the masses'.
Great efforts by everyone - task done, we headed back to base via the High St for some nice cool down stretches.
Next week is we will be back out supporting the Slough Outreach project in town centre. Looking forward to that one!
