Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Poole
On an overcast but pleasant Summer evening seven of Goodgym Redbridge's finest runners went to Forest Recycling Project (FRP) to do good and ran 7km in the process.
After a longish hiatus, it was great to return to see Nilesh at The Forest Recycling Project. This was a regular task for GG Redbridge over the winter but we haven't been over to see him in a while - but now he needs our help. FRP takes paint from builders and decorators and instead of throwing it away in landfill (which is not great for the environment) they recycle it and sell it back to the community.
Nilesh has been away for a few weeks and during this time thousands of litres of paint has been delivered and needs mixing sorting and in some cases throwing away - the bad stuff smells awful. This is where GG steps in. Splitting into two groups the team set to work with one group mixing and the other adding sawdust to solidify old paint. Within 45 minutes loads of cans had been sorted and mixed, a job that would have taken Nilesh hours to do was complete.
To the delight of Ross and Jay there was even enough time to crush empty cans - a task that is quite cathartic but slightly concerning when you watch some peoples faces ;)
With the task complete all that was left to do was run back to base for some light stretching.
Fancy getting involved? Join us next week for more good deeds in the area AND our first birthday party in The George on George Green! You can sign up here
