What a joy to be invited to the Barts Volunteers Christmas party!
John and I met in the Barts Square, a little confused as to which direction the hall was... We needn't have worried, however, as we were swiftly recognised by the Barts Volunteers greeting team, Richard, Tom and Jackie and shown into the incredible Great Hall in Barts' North Wing.
"Wow," we both exclaimed as we were seated on a very comfortable table, complete with crackers and Christmas napkins. After meeting more of the friendly team from the Trust, we made our way over to the food, where we were served mini fish and chips in ramekins; succulent chicken and spicy potato wedges. We sat down to eat and chat to some of the very regular Barts volunteers, and hear some interesting and moving talks.
We heard from the Chair of the Trust, the Group Chief Nursing Officer, and Nancy, who heads up the Barts Volunteers team, about the role the volunteers have played in the Trust, particularly over the last couple of years, including a few moments of silence for those volunteers no longer with us.
Then it was time for the raffle, a little more chat and networking - and a look at some fine art... Yep, Nancy took us to the back of the hall to admire the vast Hogarth canvases on the walls of the huge staircase at the back of the Hall. Who knew.
A suitable finale for a fine lunch, we then headed to the Photo Booth together, to grab a final memento of this lovely occasion.
Until next time.
