Report written by Peter Van Tongeren
On the day that Redbridge trainer James completed his Gobi Desert adventure ( a mere 409 kilometres in less than 4 days.... WOW) a team of Goodgym runners assembled to finish the job started last Monday evening.
Where last week the boys took care of the first of Marians former water containers, it was the turn of the girls tonight. After Marian removed the remaining plants, in no time at all the layers of soil got removed and the rough base layer pushed aside to make space for the insulating foam, carefully cut to size by Stefania. With the girls taking over, there was no space for poor little me, so instead I scavenged the nearby central reservations for the rubbish lying about, which led indirectly to Elizabeth's pun for the night! Soon the soil was piled back into the container, with some fertilizer mixed in, ready for planting. Comparing the two weeks, it has to be said that girl power clearly beat the boys - a bigger tank got done in less time tonight!
Marian & her team took care of clearing up the last few bits, leaving us some time for a little spin round the block. A few stretches back at base and it was time to call it a night.
Next weeks task is yet to be confirmed, awaiting James to get back to civilisation, but likely to be either a visit to our friends at the Forest Recycling Project or a little outstanding guerilla gardening job for Peta, one of Marians team.
Run by Marian this group helps take unloved patches of land in Wanstead and Snaresbrook and turn them into beautiful patches of flowers and plants.
