Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Wednesday the 22nd of March 2017. A day which will be sadly remembered by London forever. When the world watched on at yet another demonstration of fear driving actions of anger, there was even more of a pull than usual, to gather together at a little coffee shop in Southwark's Peckham, to be with good people , reignite some positive energy and shine some much needed light through the dark.
Thirteen lovelies congregated to task for Southwark and 'paper chase' pavements for worthy cause 'Link-Age' who needed their services and events promoted through the local area. So after housekeeping and hellos and a great big Happy Birthday shout out to Helena who turns 27... today in fact! We stepped out into the night ready to take tasking in our stride.
So after a very quick dash to East Dulwich Community Hospital and unfortunate game of hide and go seek the leaflets (the leaflets won) we turned on our heels and letterbox posted for GG Southwark instead. No worries as even passer by runners were accosted and showered in our infectious enthusiasm. And with all the smiles and good vibes the team took no time at all, to deliver some Goodgym love throughout the neighbourhood by posting all the GG leaflets (with Beth's lovely face on them) in plenty of time. So what next for these punctual posties aaaaaaaaghhh yes that's right, it's fitness fun and games time yay!!
Having previously surveyed the two mile journey there and back before the run, I had discovered that there was a beautiful homemade track, perfectly displayed and awaiting our crew. Laid out like wings at either side of our straight journey route in the form of blocks of houses slap bang in the middle of our designated leaflet drop route back.... Amazing!!! Of course this meant only one thing - Block Sprints. This involves fast pace dashes down the long stretch of the road with a short recovery run to take the corner and repeat X4 as you left turn, right turn and charge up and down, as a team.
I think some of the crew were really rather shocked at how loud I actually could shout my encouragements, but hey, when the energy has taken hold and the sprint is on, a captain throws caution to the wind and bellows for her brothers and sisters. Oh just you wait til summer and then the games really can be begin.... No megaphone required!! ha haaaa.
After full squad annihilation of round one, we split into two and led by Helena AKA our resident homing pigeon, team 1 set off for another blast while team 2 led by me completed 4 rounds of body weight training sets, including -
Curb tile taps for leg condition and fat burn
Squat holds for leg strengthening
Wall-push ups upper body conditioning
Partner seated squats. Hold hands and punch for arm condition and fat burn combined.
Like magic, as the last of the seconds were being counted down for team 2, low and behold team 1 dashed back to the finish line happy to reunite. Reunions and..... 'Did you really exercise without us here or just grab a Chinese take-away' suspicions out of the way, the team could regroup and roll out the cruisey cool-down back to base, which was made even more fun by my acknowledgement of '*Barry Road, Barry's food shop and Barry's Barbers'.... (My dad's called Barry!) But even now I don't know why this amused me so much, perhaps the cold really had got to my brain!!
Back at base and Core-Blimey Was there just enough time for a quick 3 rounds of core and ab routines....? of Core-se there was YAY. So with the whole team laid out on the floor of the Roastery they jumped to it, while I willed them on by serenading them with the tune of kris Kross gonna make you Jump Jump.
So that's another week complete for the Peckha-Possey and what transpired to be a grateful and humble night. Perfect to be with good people, doing good things, in a sometimes crazy world where sprinkling a little light through the dark, is all that you can do. Anyway.....these are just the humble ramblings of a girl from Goodgym. Xx
See you next time familia.
