Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Leo
I was very fortunate that I got to do my first mission with the wonderful Rebecca who having done a number of missions before was able to give me a quick run down before we headed in and ensure that all went smoothly throughout. Thanks Rebecca!
We were met by Mrs S' carer who briefed us with what was on their wishlist. First up was moving a desk from the bedroom to the front room, and then subsequently rearranging some furniture to ensure there was sufficient space for Mrs S to move around freely in there. Fortunately the advertised 'somewhat heavy' filing cabinet was sufficiently straightforward enough to move.
We were then tasked with completing the assembly of a wooden box that was partially screwed together. This was where self-titled 'Queen of Ikea' Rebecca was able to put her engineering degree to excellent use and had that box pieced together and ready to use no time whatsoever. Top tip: We learned that applying a conservative amount of washing up liquid to screws makes them easier to insert!
A lightbulb on the upstairs landing had (with fortuitous timing for them) blown yesterday so we were also on hand to screw in the new bulb, taking advantage of my height to just about manage to make the switch without needing the provided ladder.
Finally, after a quick but delightful chat with Mrs S and her carer who showed us a truly exceptional back garden that Mrs S had designed all by herself, we were on our way after bagging up and dispatching some old paint outside, ready for collection by the council.
