Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Peter Van Tongeren
Tonight we had the pleasure of discovering another hidden gem in Hackney. And hidden it was! I met Frankie on St Thomas Square a bit before 6, neither of us 100% sure exactly where the task was. Luckily soon after there was a wave and a smile, 'task owner' Debbie approached and explained where to go. Amy unfortunately had to pull out, but Tori & Jay arrived very soon after so the fab four made their way round the corner.
Enclosed by buildings there is a former cemetery, some gravestones still lined up along the wall and in the grass a reminder of the past. The Cordwainers have been kicked out of their nearby garden, but were allowed to use a bed in these grounds to grow their plants to make dyes. During lockdown weeds have been greedily expanding and filling all the gaps - in come some helping Goodgym hands to clean up the bed!
My apologies for not quoting the different plants Debbie pointed out giving all sorts of lovely colors, I was too busy to concentrate on how they looked so I wouldn't remove the wrong ones! In we went, chatting away about Goodgym and all sorts of things, sharing stories from the 3 different boroughs represented tonight. Before we knew it the clock struck seven and almost as if it was a sign, a barely noticeable drizzle became heavier - a clear sign it was time to pack up and get going!
A quick group picture (maybe Joel can get a copy from Debbie?) and one to show the difference we made and it was time to dash home to get dry again!
Thanks all for coming down and helping out. Lovely to meet you Tori, great to catch up with you Frankie & Jay
Next week there is a community mission in Wilton Estate - a hattrick of tasks helping out the lovely Debbie! There are still a few places left for you to join in! P.S.... Wilton Estate's connection with Goodgym goes back to the early days, starting in 2012!
