On a clear spring night five of team GoodGym Redbridge headed West to brush up on their paint mixing skills for Forest Recycling Project and ran 7km in the process.

With a few of the regulars sick or on holiday it was down to a slightly reduced squad to do good in the Borough of Redbridge. Buoyed by the enthusiasm of first timer Katy and second timer Saghir the team raced off towards Leytonstone keen to get to the warehouse as quickly as possible.

3.5km later the group arrived at The Sidings in Leytonstone warmed up and ready to open, mixed and sort paint for resale. Forest Recycling Project is a fantastic initiative that enables charities, community projects or even regular customers to buy paint at a fraction of the cost of buying it at the big DIY stores. GoodGym Newham and GoodGym Hackney have even put it on the walls for organisations in their local areas. If you know of a group that needs paint to spruce up their room or building get in touch.

With jackets of and muscles flexing the team made light work of 60 or 70 tins of paint in about 40 minutes. No bad work and a job that would have taken owner, Nilesh, considerably longer. There are literally thousands of cans of paint at the warehouse so this will be a regular task over the coming months.

With the task done for the evening it was time to head back to base for some easy stretching. Another great task done, good work team.

Fancy getting involved? Why not join us next week when we meet up with Marian from Wanstead Community Gardeners. And the clocks will have gone forward so we’ll even start the run in the light. You can sign up for the run here

Looks like a good evening's work. Sorry I missed it. Have other commitments for the next few weeks but I'll definitely be back.
