8 runners managed 4.13km in 25minutes including...

Hills, burpees, lunges and planks and slight adoration from Roxy the Alsatian puppy.

The hill and the cold were familiar to GG Southwark but everyone approached it with good humour and happy Easter eve anticipation. After a warm intro and a well done to Beth for officially being a Run leader, we set off to Grove Park Allotments a short distance away. We were met by Lizzie who helps look after and run the allotments which serve not only local individuals but also primary school and refugee organisations. 3 of us were put to work digging a hole for, and planting, a baby quince tree in the orchard. Much deliberation of depth and hole size occurred. For a more detailed tree planting analysis and guidance from a mission a few weeks ago, please see here.

The rest of the team were set to work removing and cutting large branches of an old fig tree and a build up of brambles that have been blocking sunlight to some of the allotment plots. Whilst Michael got saw happy, the rest of us ferried branches out in order for Hamish the tree surgeon to deal with over Easter.

After a solid 45 minutes working hard, quince tree looking fab and a ginormous pile of wood, we set off a slightly different route home.

As promised, the group run was to aid training for anyone doing the Vitality Run Hackney half marathon in May. sign up here if you haven't already! So... After finding a well lit park with prime paths to loop around, the group did a circuit involving sprinting and a combo of body weight exercises. After cooling off at the gardens, this was prime opportunity to get our sweat back on. Finishing with a plank, We had a couple of Alsatian puppies get involved. In particular, Roxy took a shine to the red t-shirts and tried to join in. A bit of slobber and laughter later and we were on our way back to the finish line for cool downs and discussions on the next social location!

Easter eggs well earnt, GoodGym Southwark!
