Long may these beautiful sunny evenings continue! Last night we were graced with some more glorious evening rays to run to our task helping The William Hobbayne Community Garden in Hanwell.
We had 11 of our super GoodGym runners in the midst last night and we started off by congratulating everyone who raced over the bank holiday weekend.
Go and give them all a cheer!
We've done many tasks on the canal and we've helped with loads great things for The William Hobbayne Charity over the last couple of years but we were excited to be helping at their community garden on the water side for the first time last night. We took a new route down towards the canal and arrived via a lovely trail path taking us away from the main road, what a nice discovery!
Once at the garden we were met by June and Les who had all the tools ready to go and took us round the a secret garden to show us the trench that needed filling in.
More than we bargained for, but weren't going to DITCH this task!
The trench was a bit bigger than we'd expected and the soil we needed to fill it with wasn't the fresh stuff we'd envisaged... It was hard packed ground that had been there for years! Undeterred we got to work and what at first seemed like an unmanageable task for the evening soon began to take shape. Roots were sawn, soil was heaved and the huge ditch slowly began to fill. It was a great workout and definitely no need for an upper body fitness session today! Our star of the evening was definitely Lionel who was unstoppable with the mattock!
We finished up with a tour of the rest of the gardens where June explained how it all works within the community, what a beautiful space to be a part of!
The William Hobbayne Charity supports a variety of different projects around the Hanwell area. The tasks we can do for them vary depending on the needs across these projects.
