Firstly, a big thanks to Katie London for finding us this new task!
We headed to Wymering Manor for a spot of gardening. The task was to clear the weeds and grass and fencing from the pathway at the side of the house so that they can start using this path as a way to bring people into the house for tours. Wymering Manor has featured on TV - "Most Haunted Live" and this was why there was a discussion about whether ghosts climbed ivy or simply floated on over the top. Vicki decided we should pull the ivy down from the fences anyway! Dr Jo did a great job of scraping it off the side of the house as well.
Weeds were pulled up, surprisingly heavy rolls of metal fencing were moved around to a more hidden area by the fire escape (good job we had Nick with us), ivy was pulled down, frogs were found and moved to safety to make sure they didn't get accidentally squashed by a GoodGym shoe! Toad expert Jo North assured us they were frogs not toads. A number of wheelbarrows were filled and taken round to the compost heap. We discovered the vegetable garden on the way round which was admired, with Angela taking some inspiration for her planting next year.
We tried to get as many double entendres into the conversation as possible, helped by Jen's "oi oi" alerting everyone to them!
8 runners went for a tour of the house at the end of the task and fortunately all 8 returned for our trip back to the start, it was the talk of the return leg.
It was great to see everyone, especially a few people who we haven't seen much of due to work commitments. It felt like a "normal" Wednesday (whatever one of those is)!
If you want to have a(nother) look round and help finish off the pathway, we're visiting again on Wednesday 15th September. Sign up here to come along and join the fun.
