Report written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)
Ockwells junior parkrun is a free, timed, 2km run, which brings families together in the fresh air at Ockwells park every Sunday morning. Thanks to Run Director Dave Fitzgerald for welcoming us to the event this week - it is always a pleasure to be involved. With so many GoodGym and parkrun friends to greet, and the excitement of cheering on all the runners, the event can easily whizz by in a bit of a Blur. So I'll leave it with them to tell you a bit more about it...
I get up when I want, except on most days, when I get rudely awakened by the children (parkrun-life!)
I put my GoodGym tee on, have a cup of tea and drag the family out of me house (parkrun-life!)
I feed the children, I bring lots of extra snacks too...and parkrun gives us a sense of enormous wellbeing (parkrun-life!)
And then we're happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge that we all got fit and did good together
All the people
So many lovely people
And the little ones go hand in hand
Hand in hand through their parkrun-life
parkrun-life (parkrun-life!)
And Vorsprung durch Technik is alive with the virtual volunteer app, you know
parkrun-life (parkrun-life!)
And it IS about you joggers who go 'round and 'round and 'round and through the finishing funnel (sometimes very reluctantly and with lots of coaxing from all the volunteers!)
parkrun-life (parkrun-life!)
Well done to all the runners and volunteers today. Special mentions for the following:
all the regular volunteers, who give their time week after week to make the event a success, and who welcomed us to the roster today
tailwalker Tara, who had her work cut out when she was joined by two sets of 4 year old twins.
Sophie, who Dave reported was the 'best funnel manager Ockwells juniors has ever seen' - whoop whoop!
Dean, Tessa, Matt and Gemma for excellent displays of GoodGym colours and non-stop cheerleading from their marshal spots (and happy 1 year GoodGym anniversary Gemma)
Sheila for cycling to the task and training up the next generation of barcode scanners
Georgeta and Juli for energetic time-keeping and cheering from the funnel
Jess for non-stop GoodGym flag waving at her first ever parkrun volunteer experience
Jen and Nick, who are also parkrun Run Directors so could help keep the rest of us on the straight and narrow, and thank you Jen for taking photos
and well done to Sophie, Jess, Georgeta, Gemma, Juli, Nick, Tara and Sheila, who stayed on afterwards for a litter pick. Read all about how they (bin) bagged themselves their second good deed of the morning here.
If you had fun helping to nurture little humans at Ockwells today, perhaps you would like to join us next Sunday to nurture little trees at Ockwells... Sign up here and help us take our tree planting total over 1000 for the season.
