Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This evening I reunited with my original mission buddy, Dave, for a mission in Haringey for Ms A. We were both hopeful of a speedy in-and-out mission so that we could race off to our respective group runs (or possibly amble, in my case, depending on the edict of today's breakfast cupcake).
Ms A is currently in hospital following a stroke that she had several weeks ago. In order to be released home, she needed some furniture moved so that a hospital bed can be installed in its place. In total, a bedframe, mattress and massage chair were to be removed from the first floor of Ms A's house for collection by the council.
On arrival, we were greeted by Ms A's grandson, who showed us to the furniture to be moved. Dave and I were warned in advance that the furniture was heavy and the stairway steep, but we were pleased to see that it wasn't anything we hadn't faced before, and the bed had all of the advantages of being a dismantable double box divan. In fact, my only disappointment was that it was dismantable without any of the tools I'd brought along (my eyes seriously light up at the idea of the admiring looks my fancy screwdriver is sure to garner whenever it appears). This self-destruct facility of the bed led to its swift removal, followed promptly by the massage chair (which compliantly floated through the door and down the stairs with only a weak protest from an errant height adjustment lever and a handrail).
Furniture down, we were out and Ms A's grandson took a photo of us (& the furniture) for our report (and to show his grandmother when he goes to visit her tonight). Hopefully the hospital bed can be installed soon and she can continue to recuperate at home 😄 Great working with you Dave: enjoy the Haringey group run tonight and your sci fi convention this weekend! (I really am looking forward to the Instagram pictures! 😄)
