Rain and Weed at Harlesden Community Garden

Brought to you by Newham's new GG trainer and GoodGym Brent's newest addition: Andres Serna

Monday 24th of August was a bucket full of rain.

However this did not stop GoodGym Brent from getting stuck in. Ellie and I both sat in the lounge at Willesden Sports Centre watching the rain drip rapidly from the surrounding windows, approximating on the number of people that would show up.

We both sat with smiles on our faces as we watched the first runner walk through the doors. The second Runner Darren saw our smiles widen further and the third further still. By the beginning of our session our smiles could not get any wider and a very positive group of 9 enthusiastic runners set off into the rain and on towards Harlesden Community Garden

Upon arrival we met Bob who supplied us with all of the tools needed to get the job. We..... * Squatted * Twisted * Pulled * Wacked

No weed was competition for us as we went to town on their complete annihilation.

With smiles that would surely bring the sunshine to an otherwise rainy day, I must say we achieved tons in a swift 35 minutes.

After the efforts, we made our way back to base camp by 8pm with some fartlek work along the way and even managing some solid hill work on the last climb too.

To add pleasure to our pain Ellie whipped up a punishing yet pleasurable circuit to round up our evening consisting of:

  • Mini hurdles - Fundamental skills
  • TRX - Jumping Squats
  • TRX - Reverse chest pull
  • Standing Squats
  • Jump Lunges
  • Calf Raises
  • Glute Raises

OUCH!!!

All in all it was a great evening, with lovely people doing good for our community in BRENT.

Thanks for the report! Just out of interest, what is fartlek work...?

Hi Claire! It’s Swedish for “speed play” – it involves mixing your pace. Bits of jogging, running, sprinting. I’m sure Ellie can explain better!
