Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Girija Tase
Seven goodgymmers came from far and wide this saturday morning to help The Orchard Project give the residents of Perronet House a comminity orchard.
A big shout out to Diego's ! This was his first good deed with GoodGym!
We got stuck in the the residents to move and fill six large planters, ready for planting their orchard. In true GoodGym form we quickly fell into a rhythm shovelling manure and compost into wheelbarrows, mixing them and then filling the planters.
Here is what The Orchard Project had to say:
Was so lovely to meet you and all the other Good Gym folk on Saturday! Thanks so much for your help; your energy, enthusiasm, and muscles were much appreciated. I think what you guys do is just brilliant.
Unfortunately we couldn't plant the orchard today because the planters' final position was occupied by a temporary boiler for the estate! Planting will have to wait until the boiler is gone and the planter's are put into position by a giant crane. The vision is an Orchard wall, giving the estate some privacy from the street as well as delicious fruit! We can't wait to see the final set up.
The lovely residents supplied us with coffee, tea, and chocolate - a welcome treat! All in all a lovely morning in the sun :) Thank you to the Orchard Project for inviting us along and for making our city greener!
We work with community groups in urban areas to help them create orchards -- we are creating one on a housing estate at Elephant and Castle.
