Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

This week's Camden GoodGym run was a corker!

We went to help Grounded Ecotherapy- they offer recovery for people and places. Run by members who have suffered from mental health issues and homelessness, they take disused urban spaces and turn them into thriving green spaces.

Southbank Roof Garden

The team at Grounded have been running the roof garden on the Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank for a few years. They're doing a cracking job- here is a timelapse video of them converting the area.

Turf wars

Our task was simple- to shift 4 pallets of turf onto the garden. Our turf war wasn't amongst ourselves....it was against gravity as we needed to carry these surprisingly heavy bits of turf up 4 flights of stairs...pfffffff.

After laying the turf we dashed all the way through the gardens and out of the secret exit before collecting another piece of turf. Strangely the 'recovery' run down was just about long enough to forget how heavy the turf was in the first place. We hit it hard- none more so than Will and Simon who managed 21 pieces between them (double the amount the guys had originally predicted!). It was an incredible site- 30 red t-shirted GoodGym-ers heaving turf up the stairs with the River Thames behind them!

Slalom home

The run home was tough- mainly due to having to slalom through crowds of people around Holborn but we made it back. It made it particularly hard to push the pace- and though some did, a large pack stuck together- happy that our arms and legs were sufficiently battered from lifting all that turf.

Good work!

Great task! My arms are knackered, as predicted... but I've still got a warm fuzzy glow of goodness :)
