What a gorgeous day! It was the 24th May, special for being David and Angela's wedding anniversary, so its always sunny to rub in how much it rained on the actual wedding day!

Numbers were light as Fay, Emily and Ian were at the Essex County Council Who Will Care Awards Ceremony waiting to see if we had won the category for top community service volunteer group. We were one of 3 finalists, which is why were invited to the ceremony.

The 6 of us set off along the Avenue of Rememberance to avoid too much hill running on what was still a very warm evening. We took it easy, but Tommy and Chris got ahead. A bit of covert snake running got their attention and the group back together.

We arrived at the church and decided to reenact the wedding - who would be the maid of honour? Susie of course! We then made our way around the church to cool down a bit to meet Viv, who explained our task.

Since the extension was build on the church, the ground had never really recovered from being a building site. So our task was to tidy up that area a bit, enough to sew some grass seed in the hope that the grass would reestablish and it would look a whole lot nicer for people entering the church from that entrance.

It was a quick task and we were done in 15 minutes - enough time to reenact some wedding photos, and we did quite well as we got several where everyone wasn't looking at the camera!

We made our way back to Leisure World along Lexden Road (we could do hills now), down Balkerne Hill and through Kings Meadow, getting back just in time to receive the text from Emily that unfortunately we didn't win, but we did get a nice framed certificate to show we were finalists.

Well done team! And Look forward to next week, when we'll be doing a task for Emmaus.
