Our very own Nature's Haven were accepted to design and build a small allotment garden at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. After weeks of planning, sowing, growing, watering and nuturing, plus acquisition of some of the hardware needed (all second-hand), the time had arrived to put it all together. The garden is themed around a tea garden - all the plants can be used to make teas. Claire and Aleks, the founders of Nature's Haven, had already spent two days on site building raised beds, erecting the shed, fencing and dresser. The plants had been passed by the biosecurity team so we were good to go! Sheila joined two other volunteers at the plot, ready for a hard-days graft. Under the relentless sun we dug, planted, stood back and considered, consulted, moved plants, consulted again and moved plants yet again until we were all happy. Every detail had to be right. A few finishing touches are needed tomorrow before the show opens next week. I have been to the show many times over the years, but it was amazing to be able to see and contribute to the workings of setting up a garden. Huge congratulations to Claire and Aleks for pulling this off, the public will love it!
