Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie Hutch
A Sweet Sixteen, gathered on this sunny Wednesday eve to dig, wheel, pluck and shift all for A GROVEY - community cause. That 'Beets' staying in...wouldnt you say!!
As I waited expectantly on the stool at Old Spike, to my delight the red tees came storming the doors like waves of rushing tides. Lucky for us, that similie to the sea, was the only wetness we would experience, as the skies remained clear and sunny, leading the way for a fantastic evening of tasking in lovely SOUTHWARK.
With a large gang of old faithfuls and some beautiful new faces in the marvellous mix too - Tom, Mhairi and Winnie, I warmly welcomed all troops, to the tunes of classic Mariah before heading out the door for an evening of organic veg heaven.
Now, I ask you....What makes a garden grow, grow, grow? Lots of work with a rake and hoe and a big team from GOODGYM who often GO GO GO! But this of course you already know!
With a swift run up the hill there was MULCH to do, Liz ready and waiting, to show us what was new. We will plant a garden green, Then we'll watch it grow. We'll dig some holes here in the dirt, In a nice straight row. With a dig-dig here, And a dig-dig there, Here a dig, there a dig, Everywhere a dig-dig, We will plant a garden green, Then we'll watch it grow. woo!
Soe, cracked on we did and made it snappy! weeding, barrowing and shifting happy. Dumping mulch like there was no tomorrow and running back for more with flat tires on wheelbarrows.
Winnie and I learned much about planting, how to grow, tend and water from a lady called Catherine. She even shared her raspberries - sublime! Scrumptious spoils from plot number 9.
As always the time ticked away too fast, but we'd proved our worth completing several tasks. But just before we left we were happy to hear, Liz's plans for a BBQ at the end of the year.
With thoughts of beer and burgers to share, we whizzed down the hill like we were skating on air. Twisting and turning the streets of Peckham, until we were back in the folds of Old Spike coffee heaven.
But with 10 minutes on the clock, left to spare, it was over to the grass for a fitness affair! Arms and core and shoulders galore GIVE ME 10 PRESS UPS, No wait... 10 MORE
After the blast of bodyweight training, I was proud of my team, for there was no complaining! Only grit and passion and endless fun, on this Wednesday eve with Goodgym, how could we ever be glum.
See you next time!! POW POW
