Maidenhead Grows is setting up a community garden in the grounds of Altwood School. The site was cultivated previously, but had been abandoned for the last few years, and has become very overgrown Sheila and Georgeta joined taskowner Kelly, and Deborah to help clear the area ready for some raised beds to be installed. We started by shovelling top soil out of a raised trough which was falling apart, and stored it ready for later use. Georgeta then cut back the perimeter hedgerow whilst Sheila started tackling the shrubs that had invaded the growing area, digging down to the roots to make sure they would not re-grow. This proved to be a tough task, and Georgeta came and added her muscle and expertise. We swore we would not be beaten, and removed several large stumps. Half way through, we stopped for a quick break for a welcome cinnamon whirl and chocolate twist provided by Kelly By the time we had to leave, the area looked a lot more open, but there is plenty more to do. Kelly may ask GoodGym to help again once the raised beds arrive
