Dementia is a disease that doesn't only affect those diagnosed with it, but those who love them, too. However, a diagnosis does not mean a life of doom and gloom, there are so many things that can still be enjoyed, and Monday Mates gives us an opportunity to enjoy them together.

Tracey cycled along to the Derbyshire Cricket Ground's Elite Bar area to help out with the inaugural meeting of Monday Mates, joining the Cricket Club team of Lucy, Mark and Jess. We put cloths on the tables and set out the tea serving area, complete with artificial grass and the biggest bag of teabags I've ever seen!

We welcomed several people living with dementia and their carers, and also some NHS staff who were interested in social prescribing. There was a fun quiz that people could do at their own pace and some colouring and jigsaw puzzles to get involved with, along with the tea and biscuits. Then those who wanted to took part in some chair-based exercises, followed by an enthusiastic game of Boccia.

The two hours sped over, and once our visitors had left we packed up the mugs and activities, and declared the event a huge success. There will be another session next month.

Look out for other events with The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation here.
