Report written by Amy L (she/her)
After a drizzly day it was a delight to get out in the sunshine. We met at Shifford Crescent Coop and it was great to welcome Kim, who came for a doc check. She couldn't stick around for the group run this evening but hopes to come in future.
Well done to the super seven GoodGymers, who joined the group run to Holyport FC. Everyone opted to run and I enjoyed chatting to Diya and Jess about flash mobs and life drawing along the way. We paused our run at Sandringham Road 'track' and I challenged the group to a 'meet and retreat' intervals session complete with midway squats and jumping jacks. Well done to all for rising to the challenge and really pushing yourselves!
We then continued on to Holyport FC, where we were welcomed by task owner Rich and briefed on the task: using three wheelbarrows to shift a load of shingle down the lane and into an area where the club are constructing a new patio. I love tasks involving wheelbarrows and shifting stuff so this sounded good to me!
When we got to the shingle heap it was pretty solid, so Rich supplied us with a pick axe/mattock type tool and Jess had great fun swinging away and loosening lots of material. We then took turns while the sun was setting running the wheelbarrows up and down the leafy lane, and chatting in between about family trees, the (more common than you might think!) phenomenon of 'double cousins' and whether we might all be members of the Royal Family.
23 wheelbarrows later we decided we had better leave enough time for a snack, so we congregated by the new patio area, admired Rich's shingle spreading skills and gratefully gobbled up some flapjacks and 'brookies'. Yep, brownie + cookie = brookie! Who knew?
Thanks to Rich and Holyport FC for welcoming us and providing us with both an excellent workout and yummy snacks. We'll definitely be back!
