17 runners ran 8k to help deliver flyers for a Sustainability Event in Camden
17 runners and a rucksack full of 1,000 flyers made their way from Somers Town Community Centre up to Kentish Town Station this week. We were running to promote a Greener Homes Event Run by Camden Sustainability Team.
Sustainable Communities
The Event provides advice on making energy efficiency improvements to people homes and showcases some great projects including Project Dirt, and Streetbank. They're great- Project Dirt aim to make green living easier- facilitating local green projects and bringing them together to share resources and expertise, while Streetbank brings communities together- create networks of neighbours who share stuff...from an old spade to language skills. Send us an email for more information!
Sirens, Touts and Drunken Shouts
We ran up to Kentish Town as pack, making a beeline for the square outside the tube station. Despite the stream of police sirens and shouts from touts we managed to divide ourselves into 4 teams and ready ourselves for the challenge. Each team received a set of 3 or 4 streets and were handed a pile of 250 flyers. Their goal was to deliver as many flyers as they could in 25mins- with the winning team earning a voucher from Runners Need sports store.....wooohooooo!
Mo' Flyers Crew
The teams set off at a pretty fast pace, with Joe, Peter, Hannah and Rachael looking pumped as they scampered off towards Dartmouth Park. However they weren't the first team to return as Alex, Sophie, James and Aymeric (both of which were on their first GG run!) arriving back first having delivered all of their leaflets! Nice work. Freya, Mairi, Rebecca and Sally were slightly scuppered by the amount of entry phones on their streets but made it home before the buzzer, closely followed by Jennifer, Elspeth, Stefano and Elena.
The Long Cut
We took a 'long' cut home- running along some slightly quieter roads and back along the canal path to Kings Cross. One or two people pushed the pace- breaking into 2 or 3 different pace groups as we meandered back to the Centre. Excellent work everyone!

AIC's cold weather shelter helps 16 Londoners each and every week - you'll be making sure things are ready and inviting for the evening's guests :)
