Today, Judy, Sam and Mel were helping out at the Hilsea Cricket Family Fun Day which was also supporting the Forgotten Veteran's UK charity. A little later in the day, we were joined by John with Betsy and Holly with Madison. We were able to fly the Goodgym flag under the Union Jack and have some promotional cards ready to distribute.
The main attraction was a cricket match between Hilsea Cricket club and a team from the Veterans. Hilsea batted first and then took a break for Gun race by the territorials and The Royal Marine Cadet Band HMS Sultan, Gosport beating a tattoo. An hour later saw the Veterans XI in to bat. Not sure of the final score, but it was pretty close and a good time had by all. The children were enjoying the carousal, bouncy slide and castle, and face painting. There was candy floss and Betsy had a huge blue one - you can only just see her peeking out from behind it in the photo! There was a bbq and a sweetie stall, kids games tent, and Baffins Pond Association were also there. Mid afternoon, Mel had a quick count up of the money we'd collected which came to £76.00. We decided to go round one more time, shamelessly using Madison and Betsy and a couple of their friends to rattle the bucket. And not surprisingly, they collected another £44.00, giving us an amazing £120.00 in total. Joe, a Hilsea cricketer but also a Veteran who'd been the main organiser of the event, was very pleased and thanked us for coming along to help out.
