**This evening we ran around 2-3km to help out at Croydon’s Foodbank

A large crowd gathered tonight at Solutions Health & Fitness and once we’d taken the obligatory group photo we headed down to one of Croydon’s Food banks near Reeves Corner. We were met by Helen and Earl who gave us a number of tasks including trusting us with a mower, hedge trimming/scalping, weeding, sweeping, litter picking and clearing a storage area. Good job there were so many of us. It was also lovely to see how much the garden had flourished since we’d visited earlier in the year. After we’d finished Helen invited us to taste the raspberries and for anybody interested in growing some wildflowers there were poppy heads to be picked.

So many new runners tonight so a big GoodGym Croydon welcome to Debesh, Todd, Jamie, Tyler and Vicki and we really hope to see you again soon.

The weather forecast had been a bit suspect so I planned a circuit session in the underpass tonight – obviously it didn’t rain at all but we still headed there to feel the burn and sweat some more. Hill sprints, press-ups, squats, lunges, star jumps a a few other exercises got the heart rates up and the muscles working hard. Ashley did a great job as the timekeeper with the “whistle of power"!

The run back to Solutions was shortish but with a sneaky hill and trams to avoid – we all got back in one piece though and cooled down and had a chat about next week’s session and also the Starter sessions coming up in September as part of the launch of the Natural Health Service pilot in Croydon. Most of the sessions are on a Saturday and we will meet at the venues – why not sign up and bring along some family or friends. These sessions are perfect to give people a flavor of what GoodGym is all about.

Next Tuesday’s run will be heading to Addiscombe Road to help ECCO – East Croydon Community Organisation.
