Every first Tuesday of the month, Salvation Army Nunhead host a dinner for the homeless.
This time I came over early as the meals are served at 19:00, but I arrived at quarter past five. I was given a few tasks whilst the coordinator cooked the chicken, roast the potatoes and steamed the carrots & green beans. She asked me to sort out the food parcels, sort through donated books and DVDs and finally, stamp the food bags with their SA label.
When the time came, I was the one to dish up the meal into takeaway cartons whilst the other volunteers gave them out and offer tea and coffee to the homeless. We were expecting 20, but about 15 showed up, so there were plenty of chicken left. Yet, the coordinator had a few neighbours who could do with an extra meal.
