A small crew of GG Islington and Camden runners joined us for our final trip to Thornhill Square Gardens this year. We met up with local resident Anna, who had plenty of tasks for us to crack on with! Trainer Simon brought out his portable flood lights and headtorches, and started to dig up some really large clumps of grass from the main flower beds. John then assisted with levering each of these big piles of roots and mud apart with another fork, allowing us to place these smaller plants in different spots.

Andrew (who joined us for his first community mission, but has been really active with Goodgym this month), was helped with collecting up mulch with the wheelbarrow provided, and then dug some holes to allow for even placement of the grass plants.

Anna was thrilled with the amount of progress we had made on the project in less than an hour, and has invited us back again for a Saturday session in January. Watch this space!

'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
