SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Christine Cockett
During Wednesday’s community mission ‘Barking up (around) all the right trees’, Jude, Friend of Danesmead Woods, asked if anyone was up to continuing the task Sunday morning, so I set up a Community mission via the Goodgym system for the first time; it was late in the evening after getting the morning’s photos for both groups up on to Facebook, 23:30 when I set it up and put the date for Saturday instead of Sunday, and got Craig to sign up, then tell me he’d cancelled as was busy. It was lovely to get two responses, and Katie to sign up! Where was everybody I wondered, perhaps there are races on this weekend, Sheffield half marathon for one, Katie thought of another race on too.
So, two Goodgym helpers, Katie and me, helped Jude and Friends of Danesmead Woods (12 members in total I believe) distribute two heaps of wood chip brought by the Council to highlight the main paths; Jude was very happy that two Goodgymers came, she didn’t expect anyone else to come!
The fresh woodchip was a lovely warm honey colour against the earth, all the shooting light Spring greens, and more established dark greens and moss greens. We shoveled wood chip and walked or ran wheelbarrow loads around the wood. After distributing the first pile of wood chip, we ate some of the rocky road and dark chocolate tray bakes Jude had brought. Then we cracked on with the second pile, and finished for the day. People went in separate ways. Some of us returned the tools, shovels and rakes to the council collection point, stopping at various places to look at recent damage.
The Friends of Danesmead Woods are making the space a really lovely place to spend one's time, thank you!
This is a small group of volunteers who try to mwke the wood a great place to use for everyone.
