Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Lucy Hill
Matt & I were tasked with the job of helping to move some furniture to make space for Miss M, who is currently in hospital. The team at her supported living accommodation can’t wait to have her back, however as she needs a hospital bed, she can’t go back to her old bedroom as there isn’t enough space up there.
The staff at her home decided that they would have to do a little bit of changing rooms to help facilitate her coming back - and had decided that she could have the office downstairs, which has enough room. So Matt & I had the job of relocating the office furniture to make the space.
Masked up and hands clean, the team at the home let us in and showed us the office; the desk and the large cabinet that needed moving.
It might have been international woman’s day, but I couldn’t have done the job without Matt (a man). First of all, the desk had to be relocated to Miss M’s old room, which was easy enough. We manoeuvred the furniture into the lift, up it went with Matt (this lift ain’t big enough for the both of us), so I put the gym into GoodGym and took the the stairs. The desk slotted in between the bed and wall in Miss M’s room, and I put the gym into GoodGym part two having to climb back over to get out.
The larger cabinet was trickier. After emptying it (and finding the missing Health and Safety poster in the doing), it was still pretty heavy. We didn’t want to have to drag and ruin the flooring, or risk losing any toes, and thankfully one of the carers said that they had a bit of kit that would help.
Matt went down to help bring up the swivelly turning moving thing (which after a google, I now know it’s professional name - a sack truck), and we were able to move the cabinet down the corridor into another room, and just like that the task was done.
Hopefully Miss M can get home soon!
