Despite what my car said as I headed into Newcastle, it was not 13C this morning. As I made my way to the park it dropped at least 10 degrees - it definitely felt liek the 1st of December!
When Ross and I arrived, Andrew and Emily were already hard at work clearing the low branches and sawing down smaller trees which obstruct a clear view through the park. We were also surprised by a visit from Emma, the ranger at Walker Park, who had heard about our work for Newcastle Parks but rarely gets the chance to be a park tourist. We'll have to visit her home turf soon!
With the usual pit-stop for tea and biscuits, we sawed, snapped and pulled our way through the trees to reveal a lovely little avenue. The before and after shots are great, and if you haven't already, head over to our GoodGym Newcastle Runners facebook group to see Andrew's great video of Ross helping to pull down a dead tree.
The leaves look like confetti!
St Lawrence Park and City Stadium will be our last community missions before Christmas, but if you can't wait til then to join in the merriment, our group run tomorrow is back at Newcastle Eagles and we've got Christmas wrapping on Wednesday! Sign up for them here.
There’s a greener side to our city. A vibrant, more open side. It should be celebrated, Nurtured, Enjoyed by everyone. Our allotments and parks are the lungs of our city. We’re here to breathe new life into them. We are Urban Green Newcastle.
