Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)
Another Tuesday of weather warnings - this time localised flash flooding - meant pre-arranged outdoor tasks were off and, despite calling in on City Centre beneficiaries, no indoor tasks materialised. Fall back plan of a litter pick and exercise session in nearby Castle Park which was close enough to run or walk back to Workout if the day's torrential rains struck again.
The walkers took the direct route, with Jason carrying the bag of litter-pickers (the tools, not the people) whilst Vaguely Northern Darren led the runners on a longer route with bridges and porticos, accepting the challenge of arty photos for the evening.
It was "fine" picking to start with - the cigarette ends and small rubbish that often gets missed, until the runners caught up with the walkers and we split into groups to target the bigger rubbish (and get wet feet from the long and very wet grass). A short game of "leaf or pigeon" took over from "leaf or litter", challenging ourselves to stretch by reaching for far away litter (easier than walking round to it?!) and generally leaving the park an even nicer space.
A group meet up at the Big Pineapple (pine cone? ideas on a postcard), arty photo opportunity that nearly left a couple of GoodGymmers paddling in the water, and back to Workout to dry off and admit that it's now the season for sitting inside instead of by the water. Soon be Christmas!
