Two tasks, 27 runners, 5-7km ran and lots of good done in Camden!

Welcome along to Leila and Rosie whose first time it was at Goodgym - waheeey!

In the news this week (lots of it):

  1. Well done to the Dunwich Dynamo crew for the weeked; including Becky, Pritesh and Sarah from Camden - 180km of cycling - corrrr!
  2. Amazing work to Liz who hit 50 Good Deeds last night, John who recently hit 100 Good Deeds and Frances (the myth and legend) for hitting 200 Good Deeds at the weekend! Wow!
  3. Races - we are doing Regents Park 10km on 3rd September and New Forest Races on 10th September. Sign up!
  4. I'm organising a long training run on Sunday 30th July along the canals in East London if you wanna join. Sign up here.

All the Good News!

Cecil Sharp Report:

After all that news and a warm up 15 of us headed to our monthly task at Cecil Sharp House, the Home of English Folk Music. We do gardening for this charity each month to help keep them going, Susanna had lots for us to do this time, including:

  1. Sweeping, weeding and clearing the pavements. Using those useful amazing tools!
  2. Clearing the leaves and debris from the flower/plant area.
  3. Patreekie (aka Patrick and Imogen Reekie) weeded, dug and mulched an area as a crucial pair.
  4. Mulched the flower beds with bark to help insulate the plants.

ALP Training:

Then onto Primrose Hill we got into pairs and learnt how to run up hills properly:

  1. Arms - Powering those arms at a 90 degree angle with an open chest.
  2. Legs - lifting those legs slightly higher than normal.
  3. Posture - keeping your back straight and neck up to help you up.

After practising each technique we put them together and conquered Primrose Hill - corrrr! PLUS on the way back down Primrose Hill we learnt how to run down hill properly - leaning forward, arms out for balance and landing on front/middle of your foot.

Sheltered Housing report by Pritesh:

Myself and Chris led ten further runners up towards Kentish Town to Ashdown Crescent Sheltered Housing. There we met the lovely Cathi who showed us what we had to do.

We had various jobs:

  • Four GG-ers carried up some much-needed compost to some residents who have been taking care of their balcony pot plants and the various arrangements on the roof garden too. These residents still clearly love their gardening, but aren't as spritely as they once were, so getting the compost is a great help to them and allows them to keep getting the joy from their well tended gardens.
  • Two applied some varnish to some of the garden furniture
  • Six worked on the main garden clearing, sweeping and chopping back some bushes

With all the work done we then headed back to Somers Town where Chris, who has just become a LiRF qualified GoodGym Run Leader, led a stretching session.

New Run Leader Chris - well done!

Next week we have NEW TASK with Creative Health Lab, sign up here.

Thanks as always for coming
