Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
5 Goodgymmers joined us for a lunchtime meet-up at Single Homeless Project today, continuing our work in the shared garden space on this North London site. We collected our forks, spades and rakes from the basement storage, and cracked on with renovating the plot outside- an important social space for the residents during this second lockdown.
A huge garden bed has been left unattended for about a year, and is taking up space in the shared plot. Our job involved unloading all of the woodchip, mulch and occasional potatoes out of the planter and into green waste bags, and to start taking apart the structure itself. Once the bed has been moved, the garden can start to be worked on by the residents.
Within 45 minutes, we filled up all of the available green waste bags, cleared lots of leaves from the shared space and dug out the remaining wooden blocks holding the planter together. During our session, a very tame robin kept an eye on the worms we were digging up, and casually swooped in to grab some lunch!
Hopefully we will be back soon to continue this project with SHP, but we will have to wait until lockdown two has passed. We will be looking forward to it!
