Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Poole
On a chilly spring evening, five of GoodGym Redbridge’s finest runners headed out on to the street to make Wanstead a more beautiful place.
This week’s task was in conjunction with Wanstead Community Gardeners – a volunteer initiative founded by Marian Temple. The group aims to reclaim unloved patches of land and plant flowers and plants in them. Exactly the kind of project GoodGym loves.
The task began with a quick tidy of the beds outside Wanstead Station to remove the litter (and other random objects) that seems to accumulate among the flowers. Having found a load of broken bike locks on a previous version of this task, this week the group found a silver bracelet (now at lost property at Wanstead Station if you’ve lost one) and a much-loved stuffed rabbit (still outside the chippy on the high street if this belongs to your child).
With the tidying it was time to meet with Marian to help out with the garden at the Corner House - the building that is the office for Age UK. This involved Peter and Kristian digging out the roots of some unruly plants while Alice and Kaz swept the paths around the house.
With the task complete and the promise of a future task building planters to go outside Wanstead Station, it was time to get fit with a run around Snarebrook and Wanstead.
Great work team!
