Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
This week we were back home at Good Old Willesden SC, after a bank-holiday relocation.
Hellos and housekeeping included a gigantic welcome back to CORRAALLLIIIEEEEEEE (AKA Jungle Superwoman) returning from her Mexican rainforest travels. As well as Coralie’s magnificent return, we welcomed 2 new GGs to the group - Rasi & Fausto - Claire’s other half, which proves that when you are a runner, eventually your partner must get roped in, or they'll never see you anymore!!!
With Ervin back and recovered from flying the flag for Brent at the GG May night out and Sadhana looking fresh to death in her brand new red tee, we gathered ourselves ready for the set off.
Warm-up was swift as the group gunned it down to Harlesden Methodist Church, lit up by the beautiful setting sun. If only the smell on route had matched the lush scenery, because, upon arrival it was clear the uncollected rubbish bins had been soaking up that sun like the rest of us and had transformed Harlesden High Street into the rotten egg buffet!!! YUK. Egg-actly what we didn't need, as we breathed in deep after the first leg.
Unperturbed by Pongy Parade and ready for the challenge, we were greeted at the church gates by the Community Pastor Marcia who kindly showed us the ropes. A quick ramble through the broom cupboard to find our kit and we wheeled out the 100m meter hose and...... most awesome tool we've had to play with thus far at GG Brent...... THE JET WASHER!!!! Later regressing ALL of us back to our inner-child playing at Ghostbusters!!
Unfortunately, the power jet was not initially playing ball, sending out only spits and spurts of water on tap. Investigations completed by Rasi and it was clear we had a “Kink in our chain” So like a well oiled machine we set to work – there were the un-kinkers, the blasters, the washers, the polishers, the rubbish picker uppers, sweepers and peepers (from the street to see what the heck we were doing) Sadhana’s polished glass front doors could have won a Mr Sheen Oscar for most shiny and no-one was loving the jet power more than Coralie, who’s Jungle Jane antics, brought her back to us with more gumption than ever!!!
Finishing off the task and heading back into “Cora-stinkion Street?” the team worked 400m sprints into bus dodging and people weaving, before heading off towards Willesden for a cool-down, all the way back to base.
The journey back enlightened us more about Rasi’s local status, where he was stopped in the street by every other person, to shake his hand and wish him well. A local celebrity in our midst!!! Upon learning of his fame, we rolled out the red carpet when we returned, oh no wait that was just the Red T shirt brigade collapsed on the floor.
Until next time!!!!
Do Good. Feel Good. Inspire.
