Report written by Rachel Carthy
Ashley, Pete, Mandy and Rachel met in the city centre and headed to Darley Park as it was such a sunny evening and an ideal setting for a chatty litter picking session.
Mandy made the mistake of letting on that she's pretty competitive, putting Ashley's reign as our litter picking champ in jeopardy. At the bin bag weigh in (a lot less technical than it sounds) at the end of the session, Mandy confidently proclaimed that her bag of collected rubbish wouldn't fit in the bin and this claim was indeed valid - thanks for being so enthusiastic on the session and diving into the undergrowth for some litter loot. Rumour is that Ashley has taught Mandy all there is to know about litter picking...
It was great for the group to have a catchup, hearing about some of Pete's 'too good to go' surprise food bags (including the elusive, highly sought after Birds bag) and Ashley's charity hike challenge taking place next week.
The group did a loop of the park and each collected rubbish in a bin bag with hoops and litter pickers provided by Derby Parks. For some of the group, it was the first time seeing the temporary bridge that's been put up which all found to be very spongy underfoot, especially when running as Pete has found out on his travels.
Take a look at the photos to see our find of the night....a GoodGym colour scheme whistle which at first seemed like it had once belonged on the nearby playing fields for coaching or drills but the group much preferred Pete's alternative version of use as a dog caller, maybe we could use some pet therapy dogs at the next GoodGym session.
Thanks everyone for attending and helping to keep Derby's green spaces looking clean for visitors.
