Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
26 people came for a 5k run, delivered flyers, shifted some heavy bits of perspex, carried some heavy sacks of leaves, and ran a relay race
Autumn is here, its dark, its wet, its getting chilly- dare I say its harder to find the motivation to run. All of which means you should have more reason to come down to Camden and join in with GoodGym. It's soooo much easier to run with your mates!
Autumnal tasks
Our runs, as ever, have a purpose too. We had 2 things to do this Wednesday. The first was to help Gavin, the gardener at the Calthorpe Project. This community project offers a range of services for local people, including pre- and after school clubs for kids, community food growing spaces, and free fitness classes. Gavin needed a hand moving lots of sheets of perspex and some big bags of leaves. It was a fairly small job for us but there was no way Gavin could have done it on his own- it would have taken him all day. Feels nice to be useful!
The other was to deliver a stack of flyers for Somers Town Community Centre. We owe the centre a lot. For the last 16 months we have used the centre as our starting point and they have been incredibly hospitable. In order to generate revenue ( and keep providing free space for the likes of us), they need to attract more users to the centre. They therefore asked if we could deliver flyers around the area. We split into 3 teams- each with a stack of flyers and a map and raced around the houses delivering the flyers. In 20mins over 1,000 flyers had been delivered- job well done!
Russell Square Antics
When we finished we ran to Russell Square. After a 'relaxed' dash around the perimeter of the park we divided into partners and made our way to the park fountains. We did a few circuits, with one of the partners jogging while the other performed a few overly complicated exercises. Despite a few teething problems understanding the Scapular Push Up (yup amazing huh) we all got a good sweat on.
To finish off the evening we ran a relay race with partners joining forces to make foursomes. It was pretty close (though I think Axel was showboating at the end), and Molly was nearly caught in a Reece and Dan sandwich as they dipped for the line.
For our warm down we jogged back to the centre (and into the friendly bosom of Bob the caretaker) followed by a pint in the local pub to celebrate Kishor and Mairi moving onto exciting new ventures down under, and Pritesh's birthday. Lovely
Camden
AIC's cold weather shelter helps 16 Londoners each and every week - you'll be making sure things are ready and inviting for the evening's guests :)
